What a whirlwind of a week we’ve had! We drove 45 hours across the country and we’ve made it to the west coast!
After eating gas station sandwiches for two days, (Yum!…) We arrived in Tacoma around 7:30AM Pacific time. Tired but in good spirits, we were glad to see that our rooms were ready and that a hot breakfast was right around the corner. When we arrived on site at the Tacoma Freedomfair and were warmly greeted by Gary, John, Wade and the other members of the Southsound Blues Association. After such a long trip they treated us like family and we enjoyed some time by the water. That afternoon Lindsay took part in the Southsound Blues Association’s Road to Memphis competition as a guest judge. Afterwards, we performed as the sunset over Puget Bay and were treated to a great fireworks display in the evening.
After a great stop at the Tacoma Freedomfair we drove North to Vancouver and performed at the Vancouver Island Music Festival! Thanks to everyone who came and for the warm response from the festival and the audience! Highlights for us include playing at the concert bowl, the epic blues explosion that took place on the Grierson stage and of course, free massages. We made lots of new friends and saw a few old ones as well!
We took the ferry back to the mainland the next day and drove to Harrison Hot Springs where we performed at the Harrison Festival of the Arts. Today we have a day to relax, unwind, swim, before we head off to Kelowna later this week!
Well, we are only a few short days into the tour but we’ve already done some great shows and have driven over 5000km. One highlight so far has to be the Jimmie Vaughan show. What an awesome band, it was amazing to open the show for them. After the show we all hung out and got to chat with the band and the crew, they were a great bunch of people. We hope we can do it again down the road. We’re in Tacoma WA today playing at the Freedom Fair and celebrating July 4th with some new American friends and fans!
Here’s a photo that Mark Weber took from the show with Jimmie Vaughan.

We performed at Wet Willie’s on Beale Street again last night for the semi-finals of the IBC. Unfortunately we won’t be going on to the finals today at the Orpheum but we were selected by the staff at Wet Willie’s as their favourite band and will be playing one more show in Memphis! Today we will be playing the New Daisy Theatre for the Beale Street Blues Kings Competition! Show starts at 4pm!
We’d like to say thanks to everyone down here in Memphis for supporting us through this competition. We loved every minute down here and we’ll be bringing back a pile of great memories of our time here in Memphis!
Emily with our new friend Pistol Pete from Chicago!
Yesterday we were very excited to join the other Canadian IBC acts at The Kooky Canuck for the first ever Polar Bear Blues Showcase. We were a bit groggy from eating deep-fried hot dogs the night before, but the energy and talent upon stepping into the venue was all anyone could focus on (after a trip to the washroom, of course). It was hard to believe we were in Memphis with the number of cheering Canadians in the room, and the moose heads on the wall made us feel right at home (we’ve all got those in our living rooms, right?).
After the Canadian showcase we were off to day 2 of the IBC at ‘Wet Willies’ on Beale St. It was very clear that each band was kicking it up a notch and that we were going to have to do the same. After the 6th band finished, we took the stage. After setting up the gear, we finally had a chance to look up and see that the room had almost completely filled in the last 5 minutes. With the energy from the crowd and our own adrenaline, we put together a great set. We are truly appreciative of everyone who came out to cheer us on, as it made the performance so much more special.
At around 1 am, it was announced that we would be moving on to the semi-finals of the IBC. We couldn’t be more excited to play today, and now it’s time to get ready.
