There is nothing better than hearing the perfect bass drop on a song that can keep you dancing all night, so what could be better than making your dream song for yourself. You never know, you could end up the next big DJ and could have people lining up to hear your music. It may seem like a scary thing to get started in but never fear, just follow these tips and you’ll be able to break into the world of DJing.
Do Some Research
If you’re looking to get started in DJing and you feel like you haven’t a clue where to start, then the first thing you should do is go online and do some research. Research your favorite artists and try and look on forum boards for DJs to see if you can pick up many tips and tricks from people already working and making a living within the industry. You never know, if you act friendly enough, you may even become friends with someone who ends up blowing up and maybe be able to network with them to build up your profile as well.
Find Your Style
The next thing you should do is find your style. This is probably the most enjoyable step as it involved you listening to a lot of music and deciding on what sounds best for you. Check out as many artists as you can, from world-famous to budding artists, there will always be more for you to explore. It’s also always worth checking in on certain artists for inspiration as you build your DJing career as it will allow you to keep expanding your repertoire and stay on top of trends.
Get some Equipment
The next, and arguably most important, step is to look into getting some equipment. As long as you do enough research then you can make sure you aren’t getting ripped off. Check online forum boards and even try to message people you see are involved in the DJing community to see if they have any advice on the best equipment for beginners. Just remember that the best equipment doesn’t always have to be the most expensive that’s available. You don’t need to get a massive overly complicated setup right away. Look online for advice on the best equipment to start off with and then focus on building up your skill with that before you expand your equipment.
Experiment
Once you have your equipment, it’s now time to get started with making some music. If you’re truly starting from scratch then don’t worry, there are plenty of resources online so you can learn how to scratch records like a dj. You’ll be creating some awesome music in no time. Experiment with tempos and pitch, and why not try playing around with genre as well, you may even find you discover a whole new style of music. Just be sure to practice as much as you can before you make any official music. That way when you go to record it’ll be of the best quality.
Establish Your Brand
Once you have found your style and have a few original tracks in your catalog that you’re happy with. It’s time to start building your brand. If you haven’t already, it’s time to start thinking of the name you want to be known as. It can just be your name, like David Guetta or Calvin Harris or you can mix it up and come up with a cool new name instead. Once you’ve done that, experiment with potential logos for your name and then get yourself onto social media. The more platforms you cover, the better. Social media is a great way to market yourself and unless you want to sponsor your posts to get that bit more exposure, you won’t have to pay a penny. Just make sure that your active enough and use your social media accounts as a means of keeping people informed of new music or potential performances in the future.
